The image of Germany transmitted by the Spanish translations of Heinrich Heine's Harzreise

En su obra Harzreise escrita en 1824, Heinrich Heine, mediante ataques verbales y su característica creatividad lingüística expresa su fastidio por las condiciones políticas y sociales en la Alemania de la Restauración.
A través de enunciados explícitos del narrador sobre Alemania, Heine expresa una actitud marcada por la simpatía hacia el pueblo alemán en general resaltando las supuestas cualidades de su carácter y el afecto por la población humilde y trabajadora y la gente del campo. En contra, transmite una visión crítica de la población en las ciudades, muy especialmente, del entorno académico de Göttingen, pero también en Berlín. Además, expresa su antipatía hacia el movimiento nacionalista y teutómano así como hacia los órganos institucionales del poder (monarquía, partidos políticos, iglesia).
Esta imagen es, en parte, evocada por los marcadores culturales contenidos en la obra, que configuran la trama y dan color, y contribuyen con ello a constituir una identidad cultural determinada: una sociedad en un momento histórico y una ubicación geográfica concreta, unos usos y costumbres sociales y un patrimonio cultural muy específico. Cuando, desde un punto de vista traductológico, damos cuenta de las traducciones que se han realizado de esta obra literaria, constatamos que los traductores recurren necesariamente a una serie de intervenciones para traducir los elementos que explícita o implícitamente remiten a una cultura determinada.
Es interesante revisar las traducciones españolas realizadas de esta obra para observar el trato que dispensan los traductores a los marcadores culturales y a la carga connotativa que transportan y de qué forma son capaces de retratar la imagen de Alemania que Heine pretendía transmitir.

In his 1824 work Harzreise, Heinrich Heine, through verbal attacks and his characteristic linguistic creativity, expresses his annoyance about the political and social conditions in the Germany of the Restoration period.
Through explicit statements made by the narrator about Germany, Heine expresses an attitude marked by sympathy towards the German people in general, highlighting the supposed qualities of its character and his affection for the humble and hardworking population and the rural people. On the contrary, it transmits a critical vision of the population in the cities, especially the academic environment of Göttingen, but also Berlin. Moreover, he expresses his antipathy towards the nationalist and teutonic movement as well as towards the institutional organs of power (monarchy, political parties, church).
This image is partially evoked by the cultural markers within this text, which shape the plot and give colour to the text and, in this way, help to constitute a certain cultural identity: a society in a specific historical moment and geographical situation with its social customs and practices and a very particular cultural heritage. When, from a translation studies point of view, we report on the translations made of this literary work, we realize that translators necessarily resort to a series of interventions in order to translate those elements that explicitly or implicitly refer to a specific culture. It is interesting to review the Spanish translations of this work to observe the treatment that translators give to the cultural markers and the connotative load they transmit and in what way they are able to portray the image of Germany that Heine intended to convey.
