La libertad religiosa en el Concilio Vaticano II

La declaración conciliar Dignitatis Humanaepresenta, frente a otras declara-ciones y constituciones del Concilio, características singulares: estaba dirigida a todoslos hombres de buena voluntad, fue elaborada y redactada mientras algunos obispos es-taban privados de libertad y, finalmente, en consonancia con la tradición de la Iglesia sealejaba de textos tan emblemáticos como el Syllabus(1864), reconociendo, por una par-te, el fundamento religioso de todo hombre y, por otra, la libre opción religiosa de éste.

The Declaration Dignitatis Humanae(Latin for «of the Dignity of the HumanPerson») offers, unlike others declarations and constitutions of the council, uniquecharacteristics: It was addressed to good-willed men and women, it was drafted anddeveloped while many bishop were deprived of liberty and finally, in line with thetradition of the Church, it differed from emblematic documents as Syllabus(1864) inrecognition, on one hand, of every man and woman’s religious basis and, on the otherhand, their right to choose religion.
