Challenging inevitability, masculinity, femininity and power: Literary analysis from Aristophanes' Lysistrata to the 21st century

La política internacional sigue dependiendo de ciertas nociones que predeterminan el desenvolvimiento "natural" de las relaciones internacionales. El mantenimiento del poder sigue dependiendo de las narrativas de género. Los asuntos de paz y seguridad están especialmente influenciados por las nociones de masculinidad y feminidad. Ámbitos en el que los cuerpos que se espera ver son hombres blancos heterosexuales. Las mujeres y los transexuales, materia fuera de lugar. Cuerpos inesperados que conciencian sobre la falta de inclusividad y, por tanto, un ámbito fuertemente masculinizado. Un ámbito carente de los beneficios que pueden aportar las diferentes voces y puntos de vista.

Nociones ligadas a la idea de inevitabilidad, atadas al hilo del que tiran los gobernantes. Conceptos construidos social y políticamente. Maleables y, por tanto, lejos de ser inevitables. Una conclusión a la que se llega a través de un análisis literario desde la centenaria y revolucionaria obra griega hasta el siglo XXI. Una investigación curiosa de género, que desvelará la falsedad que hay detrás de la categorización y adjetivación de hombres y mujeres, así como la dependencia de quienes ostentan las banderas del liderazgo en la aceptación y participación en las nociones de género, para controlar hacia dónde sopla el viento.

nternational politics are yet dependent on certain notions pre-determining the “natural” unwinding of international relations. The maintenance of power still reliant in the narratives of gender. Matters of peace and security particularly influenced by the notions of masculinity and femininity. Areas in which the expected bodies to see are white heterosexual men. Women and transgender, matter out of place. Unexpected bodies that raise awareness on the lack of inclusivity and therefore a heavily masculinized sphere. An area lacking the benefits different voices and points of views can contribute.

Notions linked with the idea of inevitability, tethered to the thread being pulled by those in power. Socially and politically construed concepts. Malleable and therefore, far from inevitable. A conclusion reached through a literary analysis from the centuries old, revolutionary, Greek play to the 21st century. A gender curious investigation, that will unveil the falsehood behind the categorization and adjectivization of men and women as well as the reliance of those holding the flags of leadership on the acceptance and participation in the gender notions, in order to control where the wind blows.
