Viviendo en el burdel: Observación participante en contextos ocultos

Este artículo describe las dificultades de la investigación y aplicación de la
observación participante en contextos ocultos y en comportamientos que se consideran
considerados tabú o íntimos en las sociedades occidentales. El trabajo etnográfico en
cuatro burdeles de prostitución femenina en cuatro ciudades españolas, en los que
en las que la autora convivió con las mujeres y los empleados de los burdeles.
Se reflexiona sobre aspectos que surgen durante el trabajo etnográfico: selección
selección y acceso a los espacios de interacción, los roles a desempeñar por el
el investigador, los límites de la participación, los códigos legales y éticos
la aceptación por parte de los informantes y el aprendizaje de los significados ocultos.
Conseguir perforar los contextos y significados ocultos sólo es posible mediante
observación participante con relaciones de confianza muy estrechas con los sujetos
que sólo es posible mediante la convivencia diaria con los sujetos de estudio.

This article describes the difficulties of the research and application of
participant observation in hidden contexts and in behaviours that are
considered taboo or intimate in western societies. Ethnographic work in
four brothels of female prostitution was carried out in four Spanish cities, in
which the author lived with the women and employees of the brothels.
Aspects that arise during the ethnographic work are reflected upon: selection
of and access to the spaces of interaction, the roles to be carried out by
the researcher, the limits of the participation, the legal and ethical codes,
acceptance by the informants and the learning of hidden meanings.
Managing to pierce hidden contexts and meanings is only possible through
participant observation with very close relationships of trust with the subjects
under study, which is only attainable through daily coexistence
