Use It or Lose It: An English Course Syllabus for the 4th Year of Compulsory Secondary Education

Este trabajo de fin de máster consiste en una programación didáctica de inglés para el 4.º curso de educación secundaria obligatoria en la Comunidad Autónoma de Madrid. Incluye dos unidades didácticas temáticamente centradas, respectivamente, en la educación universitaria y en la búsqueda de empleo. Esta programación tiene por objeto ayudar a los estudiantes a adquirir las competencias y contenidos establecidos en la LOMCE y en su concreción legislativa autonómica en Madrid mediante la realización de tareas que requieren dichos contenidos y competencias.
El primer capítulo tras la introducción revisa la legislación pertinente. A continuación, se presenta el centro educativo para el que se ha concebido esta programación didáctica. Los seis capítulos siguientes detallan los objetivos de aprendizaje, competencias y contenidos exigidos para 4.º de la ESO, así como la metodología, criterios de evaluación y estrategias de atención a la diversidad contenidos en esta programación. Los últimos tres capítulos desarrollan dos unidades didácticas ilustrativas de la programación, así como una guía para el estudiante.

This master’s thesis develops an English course syllabus for the 4th year of compulsory secondary education (ESO) in Madrid. It contains two teaching units that revolve around the topics of pursuing a college education and finding a job, respectively. The syllabus aims to help students achieve the skills and contents required by national and regional legislation by engaging them in communicative tasks that call for those contents.
The first chapter after the introduction provides an overview of the applicable legislation. The following chapter introduces the school where the syllabus would be implemented. The next six chapters detail the learning objectives, competencies, and contents required for 4th ESO, as well as the methodology, assessment criteria, and attention to diversity strategies to be applied. The last three chapters present two sample units from the syllabus and a student guide for one of those units.
