La importancia del cohousing en las zonas rurales

En el presente trabajo se va a exponer la importancia del senior cohousing en el ámbito
rural. Se detallará la evolución del proceso demográfico del envejecimiento y de éste en
el mundo rural, así como los cambios estructurales en las familias, en los roles de hombres
y mujeres en el cuidado y, por lo tanto, también en los cuidados a las personas mayores.
Se presta especial atención a la importancia de los apoyos informales, y a las desiguales
oportunidades de acceso a los servicios sociales para las personas mayores en el mundo
rural. El objeto a desarrollar en el trabajo está centrado en describir y analizar el
cohousing como alternativa residencial valiosa, sus características, y las contribuciones
que hace al bienestar de los mayores. Se proponen asimismo mejoras en estas iniciativas,
considerándolas una oportunidad para el bienestar, el respeto a la dignidad, y la
promoción de la autonomía de las personas mayores.

In this paper the importance of senior cohousing in rural areas will be presented. It will
detail the evolution of the demographic process of ageing and of ageing in the rural world,
as well as the structural changes in families, in the roles of men and women in care and,
therefore, also in the care of the elderly. Special attention is paid to the importance of
informal support, and to the unequal opportunities of access to social services for older
people in rural areas. The focus of the paper is on describing and analysing cohousing as
a valuable residential alternative, its characteristics, and the contributions it makes to the
well-being of the elderly. Improvements in these initiatives are also proposed, considering
them as an opportunity for the well-being, the respect for dignity, and the promotion of
the autonomy of the elderly.
