Uso abusivo de las TIC y su relación con el afrontamiento y la autoestima

Los objetivos de este estudio fueron analizar las relaciones existentes entre el abuso a distintos tipos de TIC (Internet, móvil, videojuegos, MI y RSO), el tipo de afrontamiento y la autoestima. Por otro lado, también se quiso estudiar las diferencias en el abuso a las TIC en función del sexo, así como su relación con la edad. La muestra estuvo formada por 304 participantes de entre 18 y 34 años. A través de los cuestionarios MULTICAGE-TIC (Pedrero et al., 2018), COPE Abreviado de Carver (1997) y el cuestionario de Rosenberg (1965). Se encontró que las personas que utilizan de forma abusiva las TIC recurren a un afrontamiento evitativo y presentan una autoestima más baja que las personas que utilizan las TIC de forma más mesurada. Sin embargo, el tipo de afrontamiento y la autoestima fueron incapaces de predecir el uso abusivo de las TIC. En cuanto a las diferencias de sexo entre hombres y mujeres se encontró que las mujeres utilizan de forma más abusiva las TIC a excepción del móvil y los videojuegos. Por último, se encontró una relación inversa entre la edad y el uso abusivo de las TIC. Los resultados de este sugieren la necesidad de continuar investigando qué variables modulan el uso abusivo de las TIC, así como la necesidad de desarrollar un modelo teórico específico de las adicciones tecnológicas.

The objectives of this study were to analyze the relationships between the different types of ICT abuse (Internet, mobile, video games, IM and OSN), type of coping and patient’s self-esteem. Additionally, we wanted to study the differences in ICT abuse between men and women, as well as their relationship with age. The sample consisted of 304 participants between 18 and 34 years old. Through the MULTICAGE-TIC questionnaires (Pedrero et al., 2018), COPE Abbreviated by Carver (1997) and the Rosenberg questionnaire (1965), it was found that people who use ICT abusively use avoidant coping and have lower self-esteem than people who use ICT in a more measured way. However, the type of coping and self-esteem were unable to predict the abusive use of ICT. Regarding gender differences between men and women, it was found that women use ICT more abusively with the exception of mobile phones and video games. Finally, an inverse relationship was found between age and the abusive use of ICT. The results of this suggest the need to continue investigating which variables affect the abusive use of ICTs as well as the need to develop a specific theoretical model of technological addictions.
