¿El encarcelamiento impide la reincidencia de yihadistas? Responder a esta pregunta es el objetivo principal de este trabajo. Su respuesta se considera especialmente relevante para poder velar por la seguridad de la sociedad. Esto se debe a que actualmente, la condena máxima a cumplir en España es de 40 años, por lo que la mayoría de yihadistas serán puestos en libertad con el paso del tiempo. Concretamente en los próximos 6 años serán 73 yihadistas los que abandonarán los Centros Penitenciarios españoles. Por tanto, si no se trabaja con ellos de manera adecuada dentro de la cárcel, seguirán motivados a seguir implicados en este tipo de actividades delictivas, poniendo así en peligro al resto de la sociedad. Los españoles se verán especialmente afectados, ya que Al Qaeda ha tomado España como una de sus principales bases europeas, y, por tanto, sus ciudadanos se han convertido en blanco del terrorismo global. Por ello, para garantizar la seguridad de nuestra ciudadanía es urgente que se aumente la seguridad en el interior de los Centros Penitenciarios y que se desarrollen programas y proyectos tanto para detener la radicalización y el adoctrinamiento, como para procurar que estos individuos abandonen su implicación en dichas actividades.

Does incarceration prevent jihadist recidivism? Finding the answer to this question is the main objective of this study. Doing so is considered relevant especially when taking into account the safety of today’s society. Currently, Spain has a maximum sentence of 40 years, meaning that the vast majority of jihadists will be released over time, more specifically, 73 jihadists throughout the following 6 years will be free to leave their correctional facilities. Hence, if these centres do not deal adequately with the imprisoned during their time behind bars, they will most likely continue to be involved in the type of activities they delved in beforehand when released into society, thus endangering the rest of the civilisation. Spanish citizens will find themselves especially affected due to the fact that Al Qaeda has turned Spain into one of its main European headquarters, putting Spain’s inhabitants at risk of global terrorism. In order to guarantee the safety of our citizens, the tightening of safety measures and procedures inside penitentiary facilities is of utmost importance, as well as the development of programmes to stop radicalisation and indoctrination, and ensure these individuals abandon their implication in criminal activities.
