El abuso sexual infantil es un tipo de maltrato que ha existido siempre que supone un importante problema de salud pública. El objetivo principal de este trabajo es conocer el maltrato infantil y las consecuencias en trastorno de estrés postraumático en mujeres víctimas de abuso sexual infantil, para saber cómo intervenir en este tipo de colectivo. Las mujeres presentan una mayor probabilidad de sufrir abuso sexual que los hombres, además, este hecho se da más en los preadolescentes de 6 a 13 años. Entre las consecuencias psicológicas cabe destacar ansiedad, malestar emocional, entre otros; pero es el trastorno de estrés postraumático la sintomatología más común en mujeres víctimas de abuso sexual infantil que está presente en el 50-60% de las víctimas. Así, el abuso sexual es considerado como un suceso traumático que atenta contra la integridad de las personas y modifica su funcionamiento normal.
