Influencia de la técnica articular de movilización del raquis cervical de la terapia Maitland en el tratamiento habitual de la tortícolis muscular congénita en lactantes

La tortícolis muscular congénita es una patología caracterizada por el acortamiento y
engrosamiento del músculo ECOM, creando una postura de inclinación homolateral y rotación
contralateral de la cabeza al lado afectado, sumado a una plagiocefalia deformacional debido
a la permanencia prolongada de la mala posición intrauterina.
El objetivo del estudio es evaluar la influencia de incluir la técnica de movilización articular del
raquis cervical de la terapia Maitland en el tratamiento habitual de la TMC.
Es un estudio analítico, experimental, prospectivo, longitudinal, aleatorizado y con un
enmascaramiento a simple ciego modificado. La muestra de este estudio son 100 pacientes,
divididos en dos grupos del mismo número de sujetos, de forma aleatorizada, formando un
grupo control con 50 sujetos, al que se le aplicará el tratamiento habitual de la TMC, y un
grupo experimental de 50 sujetos también, al que se le aplicará la técnica de movilización
articular del raquis cervical de la terapia Maitland sumada al tratamiento habitual. Se les
realizarán dos mediciones del ROM en inclinación y rotación, a través de un arthrodial
protractor; y del AICB y AICF, para evaluar la curvatura craneofacial, medidos a través de
radiografía cefalométrica y cuantificados con un goniómetro. Estas dos mediciones serán una
previa al tratamiento y otra posterior. Los datos resultantes serán analizados mediante el
programa estadístico IBM SPSS Statistics 22.0.0.0.

Congenital muscular torticollis is a pathology characterized by shortening and thickening of the
sternocleidomastoid muscle, creating a posture of homolateral inclination and contralateral
rotation of the head to the affected side, together with a deformational plagiocephaly due to
the prolonged permanence of the intrauterine bad position.
The aim of the study is to evaluate the influence of including the technique of articular
mobilization of the cervical spine of the Maitland therapy in the usual treatment of CMT.
It’s an analytical, experimental, prospective, longitudinal, randomized and with a modified
simple blind masking. The sample of this study are 100 patients, divided into two groups of the
same number of subjects, randomized, forming a control group with 50 subjects, to which it
will apply the usual treatment of CMT, and an experimental group of 50 subjects also, to which
it will apply the technique of articular mobilization of the cervical spine of the Maitland therapy
in addition to the usual treatment. Two ROM measurements will be made in tilt and rotation,
through an arthrodial protractor; and, two measurements for SBTA and CFTA to evaluate the
craniofacial curvature, measured by cephalometric radiography and quantified with a
goniometer. These two measurements will be one before treatment, and one after. The
resulting data will be analyzed using the IBM SPSS Statistics 22.0.0.0. statistical program.
