Egipto ante el reto del cambio

Este artículo trata de ofrecer un análisis de las revueltas en Egipto entre los meses de enero y febrero de 2011 y que han terminado con los 30 años de gobierno de Hosni Mubarak, presidente de Egipto desde que Sadat fuera asesinado en el año 1981. La idea esencial del texto es ofrecer una visión histórica desde finales del siglo XIX hasta nuestros días con el fin de comprender los orígenes y el germen que ha llevado a la sociedad egipcia a exigir la democratización del país. Las revueltas en el
norte de África y Oriente próximo suponen un periodo histórico que está captando la atención de toda la comunidad internacional y en el que las nuevas tecnologías están marcando una nueva vía de activismo social y político. Unos acontecimientos ante los que los Estados y organismos internacionales tienen ante sí un gran reto en el que las relaciones internacionales y la diplomacia se están poniendo a prueba.

This article offers an analysis of the uprising in Egypt during the months of January and February 2011,
which have brought down Hosni Mubarak´s 30 year long government and his presidency since 1981
after Sadat´s assassination. The essential point here is to offer a historical overview of the country from
the end of the 19th Century till today, allowing us to understand the origins and the root of the demands for democracy made by the Egyptian society. The revolts that are affecting Northern Africa and the Middle East have captured the attention of the international community. These historical moments also have an important innovative element, new technologies as a new form of political and social activism. These latest events are a great challenge for States and International Institutions. International
