Bitcoin, ¿podríamos decir que es el dinero del futuro?

En este trabajo se analiza la moneda virtual Bitcoin y su impacto en el sistema monetario tradicional para establecerse como el dinero del futuro. En primer lugar, se fijarán los principios del sistema monetario, así como su evolución a lo largo de la historia y la importancia como elemento regulador del mercado, tanto nacional como internacional. A continuación, se realizará una análisis de Blockchain, la tecnología aplicada en las criptomonedas en particular en Bitcoin, el objetivo es mostrar su funcionamiento y su aplicación como base de datos pública y descentralizada. Posteriormente, se profundizará en Bitcoin, su naturaleza, sus características más representativas: como la descentralización de su sistema, la eliminación de los intermediarios (peer to peer), la seguridad o confidencialidad. Además, de las ventajas e inconvenientes que aceleran y frenan su crecimiento. Por último, se expondrán las implicaciones, tanto monetarias, legales como medioambientales, mostrando las amenazas y la oportunidades a las que se enfrenta, tanto en el presente como en el futuro, en caso de generalizarse y universalizarse. Con todo ello, se llegará a la conclusión de que Bitcoin, actualmente, no puede desempeñar todos los roles del dinero, por el incumplimiento de las funciones básicas del mismo. Y por tanto, el porqué Bitcoin no puede convertirse en la moneda del futuro.

This paper analyzes the Bitcoin virtual currency and its impact on the traditional monetary system to establish itself as the money of the future. In the first place, the principles of the monetary system will be established, as well as its evolution throughout history and its importance as a regulatory element of the market, both nationally and internationally. Next, an analysis of Blockchain will be carried out, the technology applied in cryptocurrencies in particular in Bitcoin, the objective is to show its operation and its application as a public and decentralized database. Subsequently, Bitcoin will be deepened, its nature, its most representative characteristics: as the decentralization of its system, the elimination of intermediaries (peer to peer), security or confidentiality. In addition, the advantages and disadvantages that accelerate and slow down its growth. Finally, the implications, both monetary, legal and environmental, will be exposed, showing the threats and opportunities that it faces, both in the present and in the future, should it become generalized and universalized. With all this, it will be concluded that Bitcoin, currently, can not play all the roles of money, for the breach of the basic functions of it. And therefore, why Bitcoin can not become the currency of the future.
