Overcoming feudal constraints on educational research in Spain: the impact of the CIMIE conference

En este artículo analizamos el impacto del Congreso Internacional Multidisciplinario de Investigación Educativa (CIMIE). En concreto, analizamos cómo el CIMIE está contribuyendo a superar algunas de las limitaciones feudales que afectan a la investigación educativa en España, como la fragmentación de áreas de conocimiento, la escasez de investigación internacional y las situaciones laborales precarias e inestables de muchos investigadores. Basado en la metodología comunicativa de la investigación y utilizando métodos mixtos, hemos realizado un estudio longitudinal de esta iniciativa de investigación (2012-2016), que comprende entrevistas y observaciones comunicativas, análisis de documentación y datos cuantitativos. Los resultados muestran que los participantes entienden que su participación en el CIMIE está contribuyendo a que se sientan liberados de las limitaciones del feudalismo universitario mediante la construcción de redes de solidaridad y relaciones igualitarias, y al repensar la investigación.

In this article, we analyze the impact of the Multidisciplinary International Conference on Educational Research (CIMIE). Specifically, we analyze how CIMIE is contributing to overcome some of the feudal constraints affecting educational research in Spain, such as fragmentation of areas of knowledge, limited international research efforts, and precarious and unstable employment situations of many researchers. Grounded in the communicative methodology of research and using mixed methods, we have conducted a longitudinal study of this research initiative (2012–2016), comprising interviews and communicative observations, analysis of documentation and quantitative data. The results show that participants understand that their involvement in CIMIE is contributing to make them feel released from the constraints of university feudalism by building solidarity networks and egalitarian relationships, and by rethinking research.
