Morfología del infinito. Un nuevo fundamento filosófico para la antropología teológica

De acuerdo con uno de los presupuestos más arraigados en el pensamiento occidental se suele dar por hecho que la condición de criatura es constitutivamente finita y que sólo en virtud de esa finitud metafísica se puede concebir su diferencia ontológica respecto de la infinitud absoluta de Dios.

Dios es infinito. La creación no. Y si algo de infinitud hubiese en lo no divino sería únicamente bajo la forma de apertura, capacidad o inclinación hacia la divinidad infinita. Sólo en Dios hallaríamos un infinito actual. En la criatura, si la infinitud comparece, lo haría únicamente como infinitud potencial. Por eso, los grandes teólogos del s. XX son prácticamente unánimes en conceder a la finitud la base evidente sobre la que, a continuación, desarrollan cómo la criatura es capax Dei, pero siempre —según ellos— manteniendo su finitud estructural.

Este libro cuestiona y contradice este planteamiento. Lo cuestiona señalando sus aporías escatológicas en relación con el problema del mal y la salvación. Y lo contradice ofreciendo una estructura filosófica alternativa —en diálogo con M. Cababa, Torres Queiruga, B. Pascal y G. Cantor— que tiene en su centro lo que Jean Terrason nombró como infinito creado actual. El lector encontrará en estas páginas un nuevo fundamento filosófico para una antropología teológica todavía por hacer.

According to one of the most entrenched assumptions in Western thought, it is often taken for granted that the condition of being a creature is inherently finite and that only by virtue of this metaphysical finitude can its ontological difference from the absolute infinitude of God be conceived.

God is infinite. Creation is not. And if there were any infinitude in the non-divine, it would exist only in the form of openness, capacity, or inclination toward infinite divinity. Only in God would we find an actual infinite. In the creature, if infinitude appears, it would do so solely as potential infinitude. For this reason, the great theologians of the 20th century are practically unanimous in granting finitude as the evident basis upon which they develop the idea of the creature as capax Dei, but always—according to them—maintaining its structural finitude.

This book questions and contradicts this perspective. It questions it by highlighting its eschatological aporias regarding the problem of evil and salvation. It contradicts it by offering an alternative philosophical structure—in dialogue with M. Cabada, Torres Queiruga, B. Pascal, and G. Cantor—that centers on what Jean Terrason called the actual created infinite. Readers will find in these pages a new philosophical foundation for a theological anthropology yet to be developed.
