El colectivo de la tercera edad a día de hoy está en aumento, dada la mayor esperanza de vida de la población. Es por ello que la prevalencia de enfermedades que acarrean deterioro cognitivo está creciendo, entre las cuales la más preeminente es la enfermedad de Alzheimer. Las situaciones de deterioro cognitivo son un factor de riesgo para que el maltrato a personas mayores se produzca.
En este trabajo se contextualiza el maltrato en instituciones a personas mayores con enfermedad de Alzheimer dentro del marco general del maltrato a este colectivo de edad, definiéndolo, aportando evidencia sobre su incidencia, describiendo los factores de riesgo y delimitando en desempeño profesional de los trabajadores sociales en este ámbito. Se introduce el tratamiento de las sujeciones como forma específica de maltrato.
The elderly group, nowadays, is increasing, given the higher life expectancy of the population. That is why the deterioration of the person is greater and they suffer from diseases such as Alzheimer's and their abilities are diminished, so they have to go to institutions. In our work we have focused on the mistreatment of Alzheimer's patients in institutions.
This work defines the disease itself, as well as the different forms of mistreatment in institutions and the role they play.
On the other hand, an investigation has been carried out on the risk and protection factors in these situations, describing the professional performance of social workers in this series of circumstances.
