Detection of Microplastics in Spanish and Portuguese Salines

En este proyecto se ha estudiado la presencia de microplásticos en las diferentes etapas de una serie de salinas. Las salinas estudiadas cuentan con diferentes características al ser unas de interior y otras costeras. Entre estas salinas, una de ellas está abandonada y las otras dos siguen activas. En el desarrollo del proyecto se ha elaborado un protocolo de muestreo para muestras de sal sólida y de salmuera que servirá de base para futuros estudios.
En este documento se describen las tecnologías utilizadas y el estado de la cuestión en el que se comentan estudios llevados a cabo en España y Portugal en relación con la contaminación por microplásticos en la sal. Se describen las diferentes etapas de una salina y el principio de funcionamiento de estas. Además, se describen las diferencias entre las salinas costeras y las salinas de interior.
En el análisis de datos, se han estudiado las diferencias entre las etapas de cada una de las salinas y entre los distintos tipos de sal. En el último punto del documento se exponen conclusiones extraídas a partir del estudio relacionadas con la procedencia del residuo y la relación entre la presencia de partículas y las etapas de las salinas. Se han realizado análisis ANOVA y t de Student para apoyar las conclusiones extraídas.

This project studies the presence of microplastics in the different stages of a series of salt mines. The salt mines studied have different characteristics, some of them being inland salt mines and others coastal. One of the salt mines studied is abandoned while the other two are still active, providing a broader spectrum of primary data. During the development of the project, a sampling protocol for solid salt and brine samples has been elaborated, which will serve as a basis for future studies.
This document describes the technologies used and the state of the art in which studies carried out in Spain and Portugal in relation to contamination by microplastics in salt are discussed. The different stages of a salt plant and their operating principle are described. In addition, the differences between coastal and inland salt pans are discussed.
In the data analysis, the differences between the stages of each of the salt pans and between the different types of salt have been studied. Some ANOVA and Students t-tests have been carried out in order to support the conclusions
The last point of the document presents conclusions drawn from the study related to the origin of this type of residue and the relationship between the presence of particles and the stages of the salt mines.
