Este proyecto se desarrolla dentro del Hospital de la Universidad de Florida. En este, los pacientes acuden esperando la mejor experiencia posible durante su estancia. Las flebotomistas están encargadas de las extracciones rutinarias y sensitivas de todo el hospital, y por tanto, de todas las unidades que lo conforman. En este hospital existe un llamado ‘horario del silencio’, es decir, un horario impuesto en ciertas unidades que restringe la entrada de personal sanitario a las habitaciones de los pacientes con el fin de dejarles descansar.
El hospital desea implementar estas horas en Unidad 66, especializada en cirugía cardiovascular y neurovascular. El problema que surge, es que las flebotomistas no son capaces de cumplir con la lista de extracciones de sangre que se les asigna. Tras examinar los datos, se haya el problema en una falta de estrategia de planeamiento de asignación de extracciones de sangre.
Tras localizar el problema, se crea una macro de excel, que realizará las asignaciones de habitación basándose en el número de flebotomistas que trabajan, el tiempo de viaje entre las distintas unidades, la cantidad de extracciones de sangre de ese turno y la ubicación de estas.
Después de la simulación de este programa, se ha llegado a la conclusión, de que a partir de ahora, las flebotomistas serán capaces de realizar todos los encargos de extracción de sangre que se les asigne.
This project is being developed within the University of Florida Hospital. In this, patients come expecting the best possible experience during their stay. The phlebotomists are in charge of the routine and sensitive lab draws of the whole hospital, and therefore, of all the units that conform it. In this hospital there is a so-called ‘silence hours', that is, a schedule imposed in certain units that restricts the entry of health personnel to the rooms of patients in order to let them rest.
The hospital would like to implement these hours in Unit 66, specialized in cardiovascular and neurovascular surgery. The problem that arises is that the phlebotomists are not able to comply all the list of blood draws assigned to them. After examining the data, there is a problem in a lack of planning strategy for allocation of blood extractions.
After locating the problem, an excel macro is created, which will perform room assignments based on the number of phlebotomists working, the travel time between the different units, the number of blood draws for that shift, and the location of these.
After the simulation of this program, it has been concluded that from now on, the phlebotomists will be able to perform all the blood collection orders assigned to them.
