Modelling and Calculation of the Transmission of an electric racing car "Formula Student".

Formula SAE es una categoría nacida en 1981 en Estados Unidos. En 1998 se trasladó a Europa creándose la famosa Formula Student de la mano de IMechE (Institution of mechanical Engineers) y de la SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers).
El proyecto consistirá en el diseño de la transmisión de un monoplaza eléctrico dentro de la categoría “Formula Student” y por tanto amparado bajo la normativa SAE. Para ello se realizará un estudio previo del “contexto” de la transmisión del vehículo con el objetivo de conocer los datos de partida relacionados con el motor y la información general del monoplaza. Para, acto seguido, pasar a diseñar las piezas de la transmisión.
En el diseño de las piezas se empezará analizando el factor de reducción, establecido a partir de la velocidad máxima que alcanza el monoplaza en función del régimen de funcionamiento del motor. Acto seguido se dimensionará el sistema primario motor-diferencial (piñón, cadena y corona) y la protección de la cadena. Después se hará un estudio de mercado para analizar los distintos diferenciales, buscando el que tenga una mejor relación prestaciones-coste. Finalmente se elegirán los rodamientos a emplear y se diseñarán los soporta diferenciales.
En cada una de las piezas, mencionadas anteriormente, se realizarán las comprobaciones pertinentes asegurando su correcto funcionamiento.
El objetivo final será tener un diseño optimo de las distintas piezas de la transmisión del monoplaza con garantías de poder participar de forma competitiva en la categoría “clase 2” de Formula Student, evaluándose su concepción y desarrollo.

Formula SAE is a category born in 1981 in the United States. In 1998 the famous Formula Student was created by IMechE (Institution of mechanical Engineers) and SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers).
The project will consist on the design of the transmission of an electric single-seater within the Formula Student category and therefore under the SAE regulation. To this end, a prior study of the "context" of the vehicle transmission will be carried out with the aim of knowing the starting data related with the engine and the general information of the car. This will be followed by the design of the transmission parts.
The design of the components will begin by analysing the reduction factor, established by the maximum speed reached by the single-seater in function of the operating speed of the engine. Then, the design will be followed by the sizing and selection of the primary motor-differential system (sprocket-chain-sprocket) and chain protection. A market study will then be carried out to analyse the different differentials, looking for the one with the best cost-performance ratio. Finally, the bearings to be used will be chosen and the differential supports will be designed.
In each of the parts mentioned above, the relevant checks will be carried out to ensure their performance.
The final objective will be to have an optimal design of the different parts of the transmission of the single-seater with guarantees of being able to participate competitively in the category "class 2" of Formula Student, evaluating its conception and development.
