El regionalismo latinoamericano : viabilidad de una integración en Amércia Latina y Caribe

América Latina y Caribe es una región con mucho potencial, aunque no destaca especialmente en el escenario internacional. Este es, junto al desarrollo sostenible, el principal motivo por el que se va a estudiar la viabilidad de una integración latinoamericana. Actualmente, el orden mundial cambia de manera vertiginosa, y mientras la globalización reduce las barreras y genera incertidumbre sobre los bloques más débiles, las unidades regionales buscan aumentar la interacción estatal entre los países de una región y aumentar su potencial frente al exterior. Por tanto, es necesaria una estructura fuerte pero flexible, pues su éxito dependerá de cómo se adapte al entorno mundial del que va a formar parte. Como consecuencia, el objetivo principal de este trabajo es estudiar si es posible una integración latinoamericana e identificar qué factores dificultan esta unión, a partir del análisis de la trayectoria del regionalismo latinoamericano.

Latin America and the Caribbean is a region with a lot of potential, although it does not stand out especially in the international sphere. This, in combination with sustainable development, is the main reason why the viability of Latin American integration will be studied throughout this paper. Currently, the world order experiences drastic changes, and whilst globalization reduces barriers and generates uncertainty inside the weakest blocks, regional units seek to increase state interaction among the countries of a region, in order to increase their potential over that of competing areas. Henceforth, a strong but flexible structure is necessary, since its success will depend on how it adapts to the global environment of which it will be a part. As a consequence, the main objective of this paper is to study if Latin American integration is possible and identify which factors are hindering the realization of this union, based on the analysis of the trajectory of Latin American regionalism.
