Digitalization of Productive Processes at SEAT-Martorell towards Industry 4.0

De cara a la estrategia de digitalización de la compañía automovilística SEAT S.A, en los departamentos de Producción y Calidad surgieron dos Casos de Uso que, debido a que eran procesos repetitivos, manuales y poco eficientes, tenían un gran potencial de mejora al ser automatizados. Estas situaciones son la Definición y seguimiento de Demandas de proyectos de digitalización en los departamentos de Producción y Calidad y, junto con Chapistería, la Identificación y seguimiento de incidentes, conocidos como Puntos Abiertos, en diferentes instalaciones tanto en la fábrica de Martorell como en la de Recambios de Barcelona.
Estos procesos consisten actualmente en rellenar fichas en hojas Excel que, posteriormente, serán compartidas y maduradas con los diferentes entes implicados. Para automatizar estos procesos, se ha utilizado Microsoft Power Platform, un conjunto de herramientas que permite analizar datos, automatizar procesos o desarrollar aplicaciones para soluciones digitales de manera rápida e intuitiva. Concretamente, sus componentes Power Apps y Power Automate fueron utilizados, soportados por Listas de SharePoint como bases de datos. Al desarrollarse internamente y ser una herramienta ya disponible, permitió una reducción muy considerable en el coste y los tiempos de desarrollo.
Tras desarrollar sendas aplicaciones para cada uno de los casos, se consiguió automatizar todo el flujo del proceso y gobernarlo desde un mismo lugar, reduciendo drásticamente los tiempos destinados en sus diferentes fases, manteniendo la información actualizada y accesible, reduciendo errores y, además, sentando las bases para futuros desarrollos similares dentro de otros departamentos de la compañía.

Towards the digitalization strategy of the automotive company SEAT S.A and in the Production and Quality departments, two Use Cases arose, given their potential to be automated. These situations are: the Demand identification and tracking of digitalization projects from different departments in Production and Quality; and, together with the Body Shop Process department, the tracking of incidents, known as Open Points, in several facilities in both Martorell`s factory and Barcelona´s Spare Parts factory.
These processes are currently very repetitive, manual and inefficient, consisting of filling several excel-format sheets that will then be shared and matured with all the users and entities involved. In order to automate them, Microsoft Power Platform was used, a set of applications that allow analyzing data, automate processes, or build digital solutions and applications in a very fast and intuitive way. Precisely, two of these components, Power Apps and Power Automate, were used to develop the solution, supported by SharePoint Lists as databases. Being developed internally with an already available software tool allowed a considerable reduction in cost and development time.
After developing the applications for both Use Cases, the whole process flow was automated, allowing to govern them from the same platform and applications. This reduced drastically the time dedicated throughout all of the stages of the project, keeping the information accessible and updated, reducing errors, and, furthermore, laying the foundation for future similar projects inside the company.
