DIFERENCIAS ZONALES EN LA TABLA DE PRIMERA Y SEGUNDA DIVISIÓN ESPAÑOLA: ANÁLISIS CUANTITATIVO DE MÉTRICAS EN CUATRO TEMPORADAS

El proyecto se centra en analizar las diferencias entre las zonas de la tabla de la primera y segunda división española de fútbol, utilizando diversas métricas. Se estudian los datos de partidos de las temporadas 2019/20 a 2022/23, clasificando a los equipos en cinco zonas según su posición final en la tabla: Champions, Europa, Mitad Alta, Mitad Baja y Descenso en la primera división; y Ascenso Directo, Playoffs, Mitad Alta, Mitad Baja y Descenso en la segunda división. Las métricas se dividen en tres categorías: ofensivas, defensivas y físicas.
El análisis se realizará en tres fases: primero, se examinará cada equipo por temporada; luego, se agruparán los equipos por zona de la tabla para cada temporada; y finalmente, se estudiarán todas las temporadas en conjunto para identificar las diferencias entre las zonas en las métricas analizadas. Los datos se obtienen a través de Mediacoach y se procesan utilizando Excel.
Los resultados muestran que, en la primera división, los goles a favor y el número de pases por posesión son determinantes para diferenciar entre las zonas superiores de la tabla, mientras que en la segunda división, los goles anotados y los goles en contra son las métricas más diferenciadoras. En general, se observa que los equipos en posiciones más altas tienden a destacar en métricas ofensivas y defensivas, mientras que las métricas físicas no muestran diferencias significativas entre las zonas. El análisis busca ofrecer una comprensión más profunda de cómo las estadísticas pueden influir en el rendimiento y éxito de los equipos en ambas divisiones.
This project aims to identify the differences between various sections of the standings in the first and second divisions of Spanish football by analyzing a series of metrics. The study covers data from the 2019/20 to 2022/23 seasons. The analysis categorizes the standings into five zones for each division, differentiating between offensive, defensive, and physical metrics.
In the first division, goals scored help distinguish teams in the Champions League zone from those in the Upper Midtable, while long passes highlight the quality differences, especially between the top teams and the rest. The number of passes per possession further separates the Champions League teams from others, as does the success in aerial duels. Defensively, goals conceded distinguish teams at the extremes of the table, and the top teams also allow fewer crosses. Physically, while there are no significant differences in distance covered or sprints, top teams make their opponents run more.
In the second division, goals scored differentiate most zones, though other metrics show a high level of parity between teams. Defensively, goals conceded highlight differences across most zones, and the number of crosses received separates direct promotion teams from playoff teams. Physical metrics, such as distance covered and sprints, do not show significant differences between zones.
The analysis concludes that certain metrics can distinguish different zones of the table, particularly in the first division.
