La aportación de las mujeres al cristianismo a lo largo de los siglos constituye el eje de este libro. Protagonistas frecuentemente olvidadas de la historia, en ellas fluye la vida del Espíritu a través del testimonio y la sabiduría, la espiritualidad y el pensamiento, el trabajo teológico y la presencia en el mundo. El lector irá descubriendo las múltiples facetas de esta aportación a través de figuras femeninas muy diversas, personalidades singulares o grupos de mujeres de diferentes épocas y extracción social, con una extraordinaria variedad de dones, cualidades, vocaciones, misiones, experiencias y actividades. Once calas en la historia, desde el cristianismo primitivo hasta el actual, permiten apreciar esta riqueza y superar visiones parciales y/o ideologizadas que con frecuencia dominan estos campos temáticos; por el contrario, la voluntad de realizar un acercamiento imparcial con pluralidad de perspectivas, de recuperar registros olvidados y de descubrir significaciones insospechadas para nuestro presente, ha guiado a los autores de estas páginas.

Nueve de los once estudios que aquí se ofrecen constituyeron en su día conferencias impartidas en el II Seminario ?Textos para un Milenio?, celebrado en Madrid los días 30 de noviembre y 1-2 de diciembre de 2011 bajo este mismo título: Las mujeres en el cristianismo. Dichos seminarios, surgidos a partir de la colección ?Textos para un Milenio? (dedicada a la edición de obras vinculadas a la historia y la espiritualidad del Carmelo), ofrecen la oportunidad de plantear cuestiones que trascienden la tradición carmelitana y resultan significativas para la cultura y la vida actual, enfocadas de modo interdisciplinar desde la historia, la teología, la literatura, el arte..., con aportaciones de expertos entre los que se cuenta con una significativa presencia de investigadores y profesores de la Universidad Pontificia Comillas de Madrid.

The contribution of women to Christianity over the centuries is at the heart of this book. Frequently forgotten protagonists of history, in them flows the life of the Spirit through testimony and wisdom, spirituality and thought, theological work and presence in the world. The reader will discover the many facets of this contribution through very diverse female figures, unique personalities or groups of women from different eras and social extraction, with an extraordinary variety of gifts, qualities, vocations, missions, experiences and activities. Eleven coves in history, from early Christianity to the present, allow us to appreciate this richness and overcome partial and / or ideological visions that frequently dominate these thematic fields; On the contrary, the will to make an impartial approach with plurality of perspectives, to recover forgotten records and to discover unsuspected meanings for our present, has guided the authors of these pages.

Nine of the eleven studies that were offered here were conferences given at the II Seminar "Texts for a Millenium", held in Madrid on 30 November and 1-2 December 2011 under the same title: Women in the Christianity. These seminars, arising from the collection? Texts for a Millenium? (Dedicated to the edition of works related to the history and spirituality of Carmel) offer the opportunity to raise questions that transcend the Carmelite tradition and are significant for the culture and the current life, focused in an interdisciplinary way from history, theology , Literature, art ..., with contributions from experts among whom there is a significant presence of researchers and professors from the Universidad Pontificia Comillas in Madrid.
