Literary Retranslation in Context (New Trends in Translation Studies)

Los estudios en el libro "Literary Retranslation in Context" examinan la interrelación existente entre textos literarios, su diferentes traducciones y retraducciones y el correspondiente trasfondo histórico, social y cultural. Los autores analizan en cada texto tanto los factores externos (situación sociohistórica, contexto editorial, autores, traductores etc.) e internos (texto, procedimientos y estrategias traslativas etc.) que pueden tener una influencia directa en esta interrelación. El libro analiza asimismo qué influencia pueda haber entre los cambios externos en la cultura meta y las características de cada traducción publicada a lo largo del tiempo.

The studies in the book "Literary Retranslation in Context" examine the interrelation between literary texts, their successsive retranslations and the corresponding historical, social and cultural backgrounds that inform these versions. In the case of each text, the authors analyse both the external factors (sociohistorical circunstances, publishing context, authors, translators, etc.) and the internal ones (text analysis, translation procedures or strategies) that influence this interrelation. The book also considers how decision to retranslate a literary work may be due not only to commercial criteria established by publishers, but also to external developments in the historical, cultural or social environment of the taget culture, or to an evolution in the poetic and aesthetic considerations of the translations themeselves, since translational activities and approaches change and evolve over time.
