This chapter explores some of the essential dimensions of interpersonal trust as they are constructed in the context of early affective relationships, and as they are expressed throughout development. Each of these three dimensions of security can be negatively affected by traumatic experiences and the absence of protection. The chapter reviews some of the impacts of trauma on the construction of adult socio-emotional experience, and the negative effects on some of the basic processes that enable healthy development.
