Technologies Impacting Supply Chain in the Future

En este proyecto se analizan las principales tecnologías actuales y futuras que afectan a la cadena de suministro. El objetivo de esta tesis es analizar las tecnologías con mayor potencial de impacto a 8 años vista. El documento consta de seis capítulos y un apéndice. Muchas tecnologías se desarrollan a la vez, pero no todas las posibles tecnologías tienen la oportunidad de recibir la inversión necesaria para alcanzar su pleno potencial. Las empresas necesitan tecnologías para adelantarse a sus competidores, pero sólo cuando la rentabilidad del proyecto está garantizada de alguna manera.

En el proyecto, se realiza primeramente un análisis de los retos actuales y futuros de la cadena de suministro en su conjunto. Posteriormente, se centra el foco en el análisis de cada tecnología y su relación con los problemas establecidos. A través de una encuesta, se obtuvieron conclusiones relevantes y se realizó un posterior análisis de dos tecnologías mencionadas por los entrevistados. Por último, se realizaron cuatro casos estudio sobre las aplicaciones de las tecnologías en 4 industrias: el comercio minorista (Amazon), la prestación de servicios (Microsoft), la fabricación (Apple) y la distribución (UPS).

Se presentan a lo largo del estudio 2 tecnologías de ideación propia. En primer lugar, el uso del transporte público como medio de distribución de paquetes. En segundo lugar, una implementación vertical del sistema OSP de la empresa inglesa Ocado.

This project analyses the current and future technologies that will have a great impact on supply chain in the future. The aim of this thesis is to analyze the technologies with the greatest potential in the next 8 years. The document consists of six chapters and an appendix. Many technologies are developed at the same time, but not all potential technologies have the opportunity to receive the investment needed to reach their full potential. Companies need technologies to stay ahead of their competitors, but only when the profitability of the project is guaranteed in some way.

In the project, an analysis of the current and future challenges of the supply chain is carried out first. After that, the focus is put on the analysis of each technology and its relationship with the challenges defined. Through a survey, relevant conclusions were obtained and a subsequent analysis of two technologies mentioned by the interviewees was carried out. Finally, four case studies were conducted on the applications of all technologies in four different industries: retail (Amazon), service delivery (Microsoft), manufacturing (Apple) and distribution (UPS).

Throughout the case studies, 2 technologies of own ideation are presented. Firstly, the use of public transport as a way of distributing parcels. Secondly, a vertical implementation of the OSP system from the English company Ocado.
