Propuesta y análisis de la traducción de un fragmento de la novela "Les Impatientes" de Djaïli Amadou Amal.

He elegido hacer un proyecto editorial y de traducción como trabajo fin de grado porque realmente me gustaría hacer una traducción literaria. La obra camerunesa elegida se publicó en el año 2020, se llama Les impatientes, y su autora Djaïli Amadou Amal. Especialmente busco analizar y estudiar las decisiones y las dificultades del traductor a la hora de elegir un procedimiento traductológico u otro. Creo que es muy interesante fijarse en todos los matices y en la riqueza del lenguaje para poder reproducir un texto en la lengua meta.
Llevándolo al terreno personal, he escogido traducción literaria porque quiero poder reflejar lo que cuenta una historia original en la que se haga referencia a culturas desconocidas y problemas sociales que existen hoy en día. Quiero hacer el proyecto sobre esta obra en concreto, ya que habla de un problema social bastante serio, el matrimonio forzado. Ya he leído libros como Un buen partido de Vikram Seth, No sin mi hija de Betty Mahmoody o La nieta de la Maharaní de Maha Akthar que abordaban este tema y relataban todas las dificultades que conlleva. Estos libros, aunque han sido duros de leer en ocasiones, me han aportado mucho y me han enseñado muchos aspectos de otras culturas. Incluso he podido llegar a comprender las razones para tomar ciertas decisiones, que, a simple vista, pueden parecer una insensatez.
Esto se debe a que, en realidad, hay valores subyacentes, que impulsan a las personas a tomarlas, que son universales, no se trata de pertenecer a una cultura y una sociedad concretas. Nosotros mismos podríamos tomar tales decisiones si estuviéramos en determinadas situaciones. No somos tan distintos unos de otros. Por ello, estoy segura de que la obra elegida para este proyecto dejará huella en mí y me enriquecerá.

I have decided to take this translation project as bachelor thesis because I really would love to do a literary translation. The story chosen is called Les Impatientes, it was written by the Cameroonian writer Djaïli Amadou Amal, in 2020. I am particularly interested in analyzing the translation procedures that translators use when translating and all the difficulties and decisions made that lead them to take this or that procedure. I personally think that it is highly important to focus on every nuance as languages are extremely rich, and it tis precisely thanks to these nuances that we can reproduce the text in the target language.
Now, if we move to the personal reasons I had to choose this story, I can say that one of them has been my will to be able to transmit what an original story says in terms of different cultures and existing social problems. This book refers to a very serious issue which is forced marriage. I have already read other novels that talk about this problem and tell every difficulty that it entails, such as A suitable boy by Vikram Seth, Not Without my Daughter by Betty Mahmoody or La nieta de la Maharaní [The Granddaughter of Maharaní] by Maha Akthar. Thought all these stories have been hard to read sometimes, they have taught me a lot of aspects of other cultures. I have even understood the reasons why sometimes people make decisions that could be considered as foolish, at first glance.
In fact, what has actually helped me to understand, is that I have discovered universal underlying values that lead people to make these decisions. That is to say that in reality, this is not about belonging to a concrete culture nor a society, but it is about being humans. All of us could make these decisions when living special situations. Because of all the mentioned reasons, I strongly believe that the chosen novel will mark and enrich me at a personal level.
