Monarquía y democracia: ¿Un valor añadido?

El objeto del presente trabajo consiste en analizar si la figura de la monarquía ofrece una estabilidad institucional al sistema democrático tal y como se conoce hoy en día; concretamente en situaciones de crisis identitaria. Para ello, se tomará la muestra de dos grandes potencias en este sentido: España y Reino Unido. El fin consistirá en determinar si efectivamente la institución de la monarquía otorga o no un valor añadido al sistema político, aportando mayor estabilidad a éste. En lo que respecta a España, se estudiará mandato de Felipe VI en relación al secesionismo catalán; es decir, su reacción y que papel tuvo en tal. En el caso de Reino Unido, se analizará de la misma manera la posición y las aportaciones de la difunta reina Isabel II en relación con el referéndum escocés y, posteriormente, el Brexit.

The purpose of this paper is to analyse whether the figure of the monarchy offers institutional stability to the democratic system as it is known today, specifically in situations of identity crisis. For this purpose, we will take the sample of two great powers in this sense: Spain and the United Kingdom. The aim will be to determine whether or not the institution of the monarchy does indeed provide added value to the political system, bringing greater stability to it. With regard to Spain, Felipe VI's mandate will be studied in relation to Catalan secessionism; that is, his reaction and what role he played in it. In the case of the United Kingdom, the position and contributions of the late Queen Elizabeth II in relation to the Scottish referendum and, subsequently, the Brexit will be analysed in the same way.
