Las dos superpotencias mundiales (EEUU y China) ante los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible (ODS)

Los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible trazados por la Organización de las Naciones Unidas en el año 2015 en la ciudad de Nueva York representan tanto una de las mayores iniciativas de la comunidad internacional (de los Estados miembros) como uno de sus mayores retos. Se concretaron en numerosas metas con el fin último y general de erradicar la pobreza, proteger el planeta y asegurar la prosperidad para todas las personas, para lo cual han requerido de la colaboración de los 3 principales agentes en toda sociedad: el gobierno (el sector público), el sector privado y la sociedad civil. Dentro de este marco general, entran en juego las dos superpotencias mundiales del siglo XXI, Estados Unidos y China, con potencial, ambas, para causar la mayor diferencia en cada uno de los 17 objetivos en términos marginales. En este documento se exponen, pues, los 17 Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible, se analiza su evolución y su situación actual, y se particulariza en el esfuerzo aunado por Estados Unidos y China en cada objetivo específico, para poner de manifiesto tanto el notable poderío de estos dos países como los esfuerzos todavía necesarios por parte de toda la comunidad internacional para alcanzar los 17 objetivos.

The Sustainable Development Goals outlined by the United Nations in 2015 in New York City represent both one of the major initiatives of the international community (of the Member States) and one of its greatest challenges. They took the form of numerous goals with the ultimate and general aim of eradicating poverty, protecting the planet and ensuring prosperity for all people, for which they have required the collaboration of the 3 main actors in any society: the government (the public sector), the private sector and civil society. Within this overall framework, the two global superpowers of the 21st century, the United States and China, both of which have the potential to make the greatest difference to each of the 17 goals in marginal terms, come into play. This paper therefore outlines the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, analyzes their evolution and current status, and focuses on the combined efforts undertaken by the United States and China on each specific goal, to highlight both the remarkable power of these two countries and the efforts still required by the entire international community to achieve all 17 goals.
