Evolución del mito de las amazonas y su representación en la literatura juvenil actual

El mito de las amazonas ha prevalecido a través del tiempo como uno de los más famosos de la mitología griega. A pesar de no haber podido ser corroborado ni refutado, a día de hoy existen numerosas referencias a este mito en la cultura popular, ya sea por medio de la literatura o del cine. Incluso después de haber sido estudiado y tratado por multitud de escritores, el mito amazónico cuenta con unas bases fundamentales que se han mantenido intactas. Mediante el estudio de dos obras literarias pertenecientes al género juvenil se pretende analizar la transformación y adaptación del mito para una audiencia joven. Este mito acarrea una gran carga de sensualidad y violencia, lo que resulta interesante cuando se encuadra dentro de este tipo de literatura. Las amazonas mitológicas viven alejadas de los hombres en un sistema matriarcal. Son independientes, fuertes, fieras e indomables. Es por esto que el movimiento feminista ha utilizado referencias a este mito a menudo. Estas mujeres guerreras representan la lucha de cada mujer que le planta cara al patriarcado y al machismo del mismo modo que las amazonas lo hacían con los griegos.

The myth of the amazons has prevailed throughout time as one of the most famous in Greek mythology. Even though the myth remains yet to be confirmed or denied, there are many references to it in today’s pop culture, be it in literature or on the screen. After being carefully studied and rewritten by many authors, the amazonian myth stands on solid pillars that have remained unaltered. The aim of this work is to analyse the transformation and adaptation of the myth to a younger audience through the analysis of its representation in two young adult novels. It must be noted that the violence and sensuality represented through this myth are both very heavy, which adds an interest to their adaptation to the younger audience. In mythology, the amazons live in areas separated from men, where they establish their matriarchies. They are independent, strong, fierce and untameable. These attributes are why the feminist movement has often referenced them throughout their struggle. These warrior women represent every woman’s fight against patriarchy in the same way the amazons fought the Greeks.
